The AIPG Colorado Section is running a one-time special scholarship for Fall 2025. Two $2,000 graduate student scholarships and two $2,000 undergraduate student scholarships will be awarded!
To apply, please complete the requirements below:
Application Requirements
You MUST be a current AIPG Student Member (if you're not an AIPG Student Member, don't worry! It's FREE to sign up at AIPG.org), please include your member number on your application materials. Any student who is majoring in geology (or earth science), is at least a sophomore, and is attending a two-year or four-year accredited college or university in the state of Colorado can apply.
Submit a cover letter introducing yourself and tell us what you have done outside of the classroom such as research projects, as an officer in a club, or outside activities within the community. Address your career goals in the near term and long term. Provide your academic objectives: If you are attending a two-year institute, do you plan to continue to a four-year institution and complete a degree? If you attend a four-year institution, do you plan to attend graduate school?
Submit a one-page (800 words strictly enforced, 12-point Times New Roman font, 1-inch margins) essay on “Why I Want to be a Geologist.” Scholarship winners' essays will be printed unedited and in their entirety in the Colorado Section Newsletter.
Submit a copy of your transcript (unofficial) and documentation that you are a current student. Requisite standards to apply are a minimum GPA of 2.8 (on a 4-point scale) and a minimum of 12 semester credits of geology/geoscience courses with a 3.0 GPA in these courses completed at the time of application.
Letter of recommendation (optional) from a geology/geoscience professor that provides an emphasis on your performance and activities in the classroom, in the department, and your character in how you work and help other students. If you choose not to submit a letter of recommendation, please provide contact information for a professor who can confirm your information.
